Dette for det

NY poesi 3

Ron Padgett

Dette for det

Hvad skal jeg have til morgenmad?
Jeg ville ønske jeg havde nogle blommer
som dem i Williams' digt.*
Han sagde undskyld til sin kone
for at have spist dem

This for That

What will I have for breakfast?
I wish I had some plums
like the ones in Williams's poem.
He apologized to his wife
for eating them
but what he did not
do was apologize to those
who would read his poem
and also not be able to eat them.
That is why I like his poem
when I am not hungry.
Right now I do not like him
or his poem. This is just
to say that.

- fra digtsamlingen How to be perfect, 2007, købt i en eller anden Barnes & Noble

William Carlos Williams:

This is just to say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
